Statement by Senator Haridopolos on the Supreme Court’s Decision to Move the Hearing Date for #5
Wednesday, August 27, 2008
Indialantic, Fla.—Senator Mike Haridopolos (R-Indialantic), leading opponent of Amendment 5, today released the following statement in response to the Florida Supreme Court’s decision to move up the hearing date for Amendment 5. Senator Haridopolos yesterday called on the court to move the date in order for voters to make a well-informed decision and alleviate unnecessary confusion on November’s ballot.
“Today’s decision to move up the date for the hearing on Amendment 5 is in the best interest of Florida voters. By waiting until September 8, ballots would have been created with language that may or may not be included, costing the state valuable dollars and creating confusion for the electorate.”
“It is imperative that voters be able to make an informed decision on Election Day, and not be faced with unnecessary confusion that can be avoided with a timely hearing. I applaud the Supreme Court and look forward to the final outcome on the constitutionality of Amendment 5.”
